Ethical Policy
This website is just intended to show products that are suitable for dietary vegans. There are a wide range of other ethical issues that you may wish to consider as well. e.g. animal testing, pesticide use, exploitation of workers, third world exploitation, environmental pollution, genetic modification, arms manufacturers etc.
We leave this decision to the individual to decide.
These links may be of use if you want to explore these other issues.
Notes:
Because an item is not on the database does not mean it is not suitable for vegans. There are several reasons for this: some companies fail to respond to our request for information as to whether any of their products are suitable for vegans or because of commercial reasons will not tell us if their products are suitable for vegans; sometimes we do not believe the manufacturer really knows what a vegan is or whether their product includes an animal ingredient;
If you know of any products not on the list or if you see any products on the list that you believe to be incorrectly labelled suitable for vegans please email us. We have listed the products in food faith that the information supplied to us by the companies listed is correct at the time of listing. During our investigation into whether a products is suitable for vegans or not we have found most of the companies fully understand what a vegan is (unfortunately not all - one company believed that whey powder was not an animal product) and are looking at the vegan market as an expanding market.
On an ethical note, we have left the decision of whether one should buy from a company or not to the individual. We have listed companies whose major product range is made up of animal products but they produce one or two items suitable for vegans. Given the choice between a company who supplies just vegan suitable items and one that sells animal products, most vegans would plump for the first, but the choice is not always that simple.
